Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin on Thursday said that the government is ready to provide all-out support and cooperation to the microfinance banking sector in Pakistan. 

He held a meeting with the delegation of FINCA Microfinance Bank led by its Global Chief Executive Officer Ms. Andree Simon, in the Finance Division. Secretary Finance Division and senior officers of the Finance Division also participated in the meeting. 

Ms. Andree Simon briefed about the operation of FINCA Micro Finance Bank Pakistan and was apprised that the Bank is working to provide microfinance services to the under-privileged segments of this society. She further added that FINCA micro-finance Bank is operating in 20 developing countries in the world including Pakistan with 130 branches across the country and is very keen to expand its operation in Pakistan. FINCA Global considers Pakistan as a very promising market for its operation.

Advisor to the PM on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin welcomed the FINCA Microfinance Bank in Pakistan and said that the present government is determined to uplift the living standards of the underprivileged, especially in the rural areas. Therefore, the government is encouraging foreign investment and focusing on increasing the footprints of micro-finance banking in Pakistan the stimulating the economic activity in the country. The delegation thanked the Adviser Finance for unstinting support to the micro-finance sector in general and to FINCA micro-finance Bank in Pakistan.

establishes  industry’s first branch staffed entirely by women 

In line with its commitment to empowering women through financial inclusion, Pakistan’s leading microfinance institution, FINCA Microfinance Bank Ltd. launched the microfinance industry’s first branch staffed entirely by women in the capital city. 

The inauguration of the branch was celebrated by the Fawad Chaudhry, Minister of Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan, who was joined by the bank’s global leadership team, including Ms. Andrée Simon, President, and CEO of parent company FINCA Impact Finance (FIF). The banks and microfinance institutions in 19 countries that make up the FIF network deliver responsible financial services to low-income customers across the world.

“We are so proud of the responsible financial services FINCA provides in Pakistan,” said Andrée Simon. “Since 2013, FINCA Pakistan has provided PKR 131 billion in loans, resulting in an estimated 3 million jobs. Today, we serve 1.5 million Pakistanis, the majority of whom are in rural areas. We employ more than 2,400 employees in 120+ cities across Pakistan.

This all-female staff branch in Islamabad currently serves approximately 400 deposit clients, maintaining a deposit base of an estimated PKR 400 million. The branch is offering free ATM cards and checkbooks to current and new female depositors to celebrate its inauguration till December 2021.
